Welcome to ANZBA 2019
We welcome you to attend the 43rd Annual Scientific meeting (ASM) of the Australian and New Zealand Burns Association (ANZBA) to be held in Hobart from the 15th– 18th October 2019. The Hobart Grand Chancellor, nestled on the shores of Sullivans Cove, will be home to hundreds of guests learning about the most recent advances in burn care from world renowned clinicians, researchers and educators. Our theme for this conference is “Burns Across the Ages”.
The Tasmanian Burns Unit was formed 50 years ago after the catastrophic 1967 bushfires when 62 people lost their lives, 900 were injured and 3000 buildings were razed. There are a number of themes common to Tasmania which is also relevant across Australia and New Zealand and the international burns community: obesity and bariatric care; burns care from either end of the age spectrum- the very young and the very old; disaster management; itch and pain; palliative care and neck and axilla burns. Burns care into the future and the importance of trauma communication will also be explored throughout the meeting.
Tasmania is Australia’s island state with Hobart the main gateway to explore all the wonders this state from the pristine wilderness of the South-West to the stunning beaches of the East Coast. Our clean, green environment is ideal for producing exceptional food, wine and boutique distilleries of some of the worlds finest Gin and Whisky. An art lovers paradise and a bushwalkers delight all rolled into one.
We welcome you to come and learn. We welcome you to come and educate. But most of all we welcome you to come and explore …
