Complications following burn injuries can affect the patient’s long term outcome. This can be seen in both small and large injuries. In areas such as the neck these complications can lead to considerable restriction in activities of daily living and psychosocial dysfunction.

The aim of early aggressive treatment of children with a neck burn is to minimise, or at least delay, future reconstructive surgery in addition to providing them with the best possible cosmetic and functional outcome.

Many factors can influence a good or bad result. These include the correct use of neck collars, positioning, exercising and parent and child cooperation.

Our regime and results highlight current practice.
