Invitation to Submit

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

As we embark on a new decade we invite you to Perth for ANZBA 2020 and ask: What’s your vision?

Bring us your vision for burn care in 2020 and we’ll share ours.

What advances will make their way from the laboratories to the bedside?  How will we provide better burns ‘outreach’ to rural, remote and disadvantaged communities?  Where will technology really help us as we head through the 20s.

Submit your abstracts and join us at the Westin Perth from October 13-16 2020 for workshops, plenaries and free paper sessions covering the full spectrum of multi-disciplinary burn care.  Specifically, we will have plenary and free paper sessions on:

  • Human Factors & Patient Safety
  • Burn care in rural & remote Australasia
  • Burn care in low and middle income countries
  • Technological advances in burns
  • Burns surgery – what will be the next big thing?
  • Scar management

Enjoy the city of Perth in Spring – with a great choice of hotels, bars, restaurants, local attractions and activities.  Visit Rottnest Island and grab your quokka selfie.  Extend your stay and experience the variety and vastness of Western Australia from the wines of Margaret River to the fringing reefs of the coral coast.

The following awards will be awarded during the ASM:

Best Poster Presentations on the following streams:

  • Education

You will be asked to identify the prize that your presentation is eligible for during the submission process.

Please note there will be no cash prizes awarded in 2020.

Presentation Formats

We invite you to submit abstracts of 250 words in the formats below. While you will be asked to indicate your preferred presentation format when submitting your abstract, the Committee may request an alternative format be considered.

The Committee will allocate the format of presentations, taking into account the preference of authors and the balance of the program.

Oral Presentations

It is anticipated that oral presentations will be allocated 8 minutes plus 2 minutes for questions.

Impact Presentations

It is anticipated that impact presentations will be allocated 2 minutes to provide a summary of their work, along with an ePoster.


To reduce the impact on the environment and cost to presenters, electronic posters will be displayed in the main area of the venue on large flat screens on a 1 minute rotation. Delegates will be able to pause ePosters and skip to others using the index page.  ePosters will be displayed for the duration of the meeting.

Posters will be a single PowerPoint slide and can include video and audio. We can also include a PDF version of your poster in the ASM App. Information regarding access of this app will be provided as the ASM draws closer.

Paper Templates

Abstracts are to be no more than 250 words and are to be entered in a plain text format in the Presentation Portal.

Abstracts should be referenced using the Harvard style.  Click here for more information.

Initial ePoster submissions require a written abstract, once accepted you can then design your slide using the ePoster Template.

How to Submit

Submissions are due by Tuesday 14 April 2020 and can be submitted via the presentation portal on this website.

Abstracts should not exceed 250 words.

Authors will be notified of the status of their abstracts by early June 2020. 

Review Process

The Program Committee will review all submitted abstracts.

As there are limited places for oral presentations some abstracts submitted for oral presentation may be offered ePosters. Authors in these cases will be advised and asked to confirm whether they wish to present an ePoster.

Presenters Registration

All presenters will be required to register for the conference and pay the appropriate registration fee. Presenters also need to meet their own travel and accommodation costs.

Audiovisual Equipment

Each session room will be equipped for the presentation of PowerPoint slides and include a data projector, computer with external speakers, lectern and microphone.

Presentation Files

Presenters will take their Power Point slides to the meeting on a memory stick, where an audiovisual technician will load your presentation.

Video and audio clips should be embedded in your Power Point slides rather than linking to external files.

All slides will be run from a central presentation computer. However, if you have a complex presentation, which includes multiple media files, we suggest you bring your own laptop as a backup in case of difficulties loading your presentation.
